Using Google Scholar, we identified that the top 10 most cited DAFx papers (between 43 to 65 times) are in majority (8/10) dealing with sound and music analysis (e.g. Results showed that the DAFx literature (with quasi-linear accumulative growth) now consists of 722 contributions (including key notes, papers and posters) from 767 unique authors, from which we identified the 20 top DAFx contributors.
Using the online DAFx proceedings, we constructed a DAFx database (LaTeX) to study its bibliometric statistics in terms of research topics, growth of literature, authorship distribution, citation patterns, and frequency distribution of scientific productivity. In this paper we present a bibliometric study of the Digital Audio Effects (DAFx) conference proceedings from 1998 to 2009.
Along with the technical advancement, the synergy between technology and creativity in computer music is also highlighted when appropriate in this chapter, as such a perspective can be beneficial to reconsider the relationship between computer technology and artistic creativity in our decades. While the evolution of computer music languages has been largely supported by the advance of computer technology and the achievement of the related research in computer science and audio engineering, it should be also noted that issues found in creative practices also have given significant influences to the development of computer music languages and systems throughout its history. The division between the eras of non-real-time computer music systems and real-time computer music systems is particularly emphasized, as it gave a significant impact on both creative practices by artists and musicians and the design of computer music languages and systems by researchers and engineers.
As is often seen in other surveys of computer music history, the historical development of computer music languages and systems is divided into several overlapping eras in this chapter.

And yes, it happened before I moved to Leopard. This chapter briefly overviews the history of computer music languages and related systems, mainly focusing on those developed in the research community (hence, less focus is put on those commercial computer music software such as digital audio workstation (DAW) software or sound editor software). Ive also had the issue when going from one PT session to another. I'm exporting a file from Wave Editor but dithering and saving as a 24-bit file. There is also a low cost upgrade, Switch Plus, that allows more formats and more features including dealing with audio from video files. I've never checked to see if it strips metadata, however, it may. It works with over a dozen audio file formats. Last, it will put the converted file in the same directory as the original file without overwriting, it's really quite handy. (Note: It will also upsample convert low rez web audio.)

In converting from WAV to WAV this little utility somehow fixes the file headers so Pro Tools' Workspace Browser sees & plays them. Many of these "FOUND" wav files will not work in Workspace.

My students do a "sound collage" project in their first semester with pro tools that involves using sounds from, , movie trailers, the audio hijack program/workflow and the like to get "flight hours" actually using the program. The mac program Switch (there is a freeware version 1.32) can often fix wavs that Pro Tools refuses to import from the workspace.

This is a "cross post" I did in another thread, not sure how to re-direct so it's a hack 'n' paste job.
